Catfishing, a term that has only been around for a couple of years. It is when you become friends (or more than friends) with someone on the internet who lied about their identity. This is becoming more common among teenagers with all of the technology and dating sites they participate in. There is even a tv show all about people who have been talking online for a while and meet for the first time. Sometimes they are exactly who they said they were while other times, it is a completely different person. It can be very traumatic for someone who has shared so much with this one person for such a long time to only find out it was all a lie. Young teens are now doing this to themselves by saying they have a boyfriend or girlfriend when they actually don’t. They post pictures of a random person who they play off to be their signifiant other. Their friends eventually can find out when they research the significant other’s name. Teenagers can get themselves into a lot of trouble when they meet someone online and meet up for the first time. They all need to be very careful and know exactly who they are talking to online and who they are going to meet.
